I live in a small town in WV. Every 4 years we elect new city officials. We have had a competent mayor, strong law enforcement, utilities management, a bi-monthly newsletterto tell us what's going on or coming up, friendly city workers. Until this past January when a new mayor took office.
Since January, the Police chief was fired (by a text message!), most of the police department have quit or transferred elsewhere, the city work force has decreased, and the newsletter is nonexistent. He tried to strip the town recorder of her right to vote on town issues, but that was reversed when he was told it went against the state constitution. We are down to 2 full-time officers, 1 part-time officer and no chief of police.
Last week, a city worker was digging a ditch (don't know why) and was killed when the walls collapsed on him. It's clearly an OSHA violation, and probably due to lack of leadership. The mayor has promised to make our town better than ever, but I doubt he will, since he doesn't seem to know how to do anything. I just hope that our town will survive his mayorship.
Congratulations @frenchi. Your question was chosen for tonight's Ask Greg
@Frenchi. What is one particular thing that always shows up in your dreams ?
Happy birthday, @Pam_Antosiak. We are holding you in our hearts today. I hope you feel surrounded by love, especially from your Gutter family, and that today brings you a few smiles.
Letter to the IRS
Attn: IRS
Enclosed is my current tax return & payment.
Please take note of the attached article from the USA Today newspaper. In the article, you will see the Pentagon is paying $171.50 for hammers and NASA has paid $600.00 for a toilet seat.
Please find enclosed four toilet seats (value $2400) and six hammers (value $1029). This brings my total payment to $3429.00.
Please note the over-payment of $22.00 and apply it to the ‘Presidential Election Fund,’ as noted on my return.
Might I suggest you the send the above mentioned fund a 1.5 inch screw.’ (See attached article…HUD paid $22.00 for a 1.5 inch Phillips head screw.)
It has been a pleasure to pay my tax bill this year, and I look forward to paying it again next year.
Sincerely,
A satisfied taxpayer
