“Day 5”
Of the 2026 Cavalcade.
1060 miles.
We left Cape Blanco around 11:00.
Cape Blanco is the most western point of the continental United States (lower 48).
We visited the lighthouse and grounds this morning, but it was completely fogged in. It was so thick that my scoot was soaking wet and dripping water.
We only traveled 88 miles today, it still took us almost 3 hours of ‘seat time’ because of the costal towns, road repair, and rough roads.
I pulled off multiple times to see the views. Just when you think it can’t continue it does.
We are ensconsed just inside California, in Crescent City, which is near Redwood NP, and Redwood State park.
Unfortunately we couldn’t get a spot in either of the parks, so we are in a KOA.
A nice KOA, in amongst redwoods, ‘small’ redwoods, but redwoods nonetheless.
We are staying two nights in this location. My beautiful bride collects NP Stamps in a NP passport book. We will ride the scoot through both parks and get her stamp.

Awhile ago, I did a health check-in with a United Healthcare House Calls nurse that comes to see me twice a year. We went over my meds and medical history, she gave me paperwork on dietary improvements, chair exercises, and employing an Advance Directive - I'm leaning toward Do Not Resuscitate in mine - and after checking my blood pressure, breathing, heart, and memory, I did my weigh-in.
And guess what?
August 2024: 360 lbs.
Today: 230 lbs.
God is good. 😊
