Tang is a popular powdered orange drink mix created in 1957 by William A. Mitchell, a food scientist at General Foods Corporation. The creator of Tang also invented Pop Rocks, Cool Whip, a form of instant-set Jell-O, and other convenience foods.
Origins and Early Sales
Formulation: William A. Mitchell and chemist William Bruce James developed the formula in 1957.
Market Launch: It hit store shelves in powdered form in 1959 as a convenient breakfast drink rich in vitamin C.
Slow Start: Initial retail sales were low before its association with space exploration.
The NASA Connection
Space Flight: NASA included Tang on John Glenn’s 1962 Mercury flight (Friendship 7) to help make onboard water taste better.
Common Myth: Although widespread belief says Tang was invented for the space program, it was already a commercial product when NASA adopted it.
Marketing Boom: General Foods used the space association in advertising, which caused sales to skyrocket.

Hey Gutter Miracles good morning. Yesterday was a great day! I woke up to a call from my doctor that the VA approved my referral for Gentle Cure to get rid of the cancer on my face! Then I got a call from the VA telling me to make sure who ever I choose works with the VA! I said you don't have a list? The young lady stuttered a a no, I said so I'm supposed to find one? Is The VA going to pay me for doing their job? After a silent pause she said no I'll do that for you Mr Power. Amazing!
Then called my daughter and she announced that my granddaughter Ruby is going to be a Drummer!!
