Some Saturday Morning Physics & Engineering History -
Michael Faraday demonstrated electromagnetic induction on August 29, 1831, using his induction ring-coil apparatus—the prototype for the first electrical transformer.

The Experiment

The Apparatus: Faraday wrapped two distinct insulated coils of copper wire around opposite sides of a soft iron ring.

The Setup: He connected the first coil to a battery and attached the second coil to a galvanometer (a meter to detect electric current) without any direct power source attached to it.

The Discovery: When he turned the battery on or off, the meter on the second coil briefly jumped, proving that a changing magnetic field inside the iron ring induced a transient current in the secondary wire.

Historical Significance

Electromagnetic Induction: The experiment proved that electricity could be generated from magnetism, leading directly to Faraday's law of induction. [1, 2]

Modern Engineering: This foundational breakthrough made modern electrical ...

Ask Greg Winning QuestionS

Congratulation to @SGKusmertz, @bek1, and @wilbner. Your questions were chosen for tonight’s Ask Joe and the Panelists.

@SGKusmertz If you could have one song play when you enter a room, what would it be?
@bek1 Do you usually feel excited or stressed out about going back to school after summer break?
@wilbner What was the best prank you’ve ever pulled?

Congratulations to @steve-allen and @wilbner. Your questions were chosen for tonight’s Ask Greg and the Panelists.

@Steve-allen What pet did you always want but never got ?
@Wilbner What food have you "overdosed" on many years ago, and refuse to eat now?

I wanted to wait 'til I had some good news to report...This is one of our cats, Weasel. He's really a she, but he identifies as a he. Long story. He's 14.
Recently, he's been losing weight, and drinking & urinating 3x as much as he used to. So, he saw the Vet this past Friday and he has diabetes - and now he needs insulin shots 2x a day, and his glucose levels checked regularly.
My wife was not able to make the trip to the Vet but since then she's been a rock and has got the routine down. Surprisingly, Weasel, who has a "colorful" disposition, has been a saint, not letting the needles affect his (or our) quality of life.
Hopefully his levels continue to drop and injections can be reduced, and God willing, (temp. or perm.) discontinued.
Everyone on the Gutter is so good about taking care of their pets. So just another friendly reminder to not wait if you see warning signs.

I've decided to NOT give this story to The Babylon Bee. I don't want them to get firebombed.
So, here's Mamdani "trying to smooth things over" after the 9/11 Families Press Conference today...
