I'm rewatching G! from Friday night cause I was ill on Saturday and kept dozing off

Anyway, on the Madison CRAZy hobo camp: It is not too far from the UW campus and school will be starting soon - in fact, I'll bet the Badgers have already started practice and, 151 is a pretty main road to get to downtown so......

No official shutdown or forced clearance has been executed by the city yet. However, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway issued a formal statement demanding that protesters voluntarily dismantle the barricades and vacate the area.

The occupation—variously dubbed the "Corey Ruiz Autonomous Zone" (CRAZ) or compared to Seattle's 2020 CHAZ—remains an active, evolving situation at the intersection of Williamson Street and South Baldwin Street.

Current Status of the Encampment

The Standoff: Protesters have barricaded a two-block radius with trash cans, wooden pallets, and nail-studded blockades following the fatal police shooting of Corey Ruiz.

City Stance: The city initially provided basic resources like portable toilets, but leadership has pivoted, stating the occupation is "not sustainable or safe". In a new statement Friday, Rhodes-Conway said “the occupation of public space cannot continue,” while also acknowledging the grief in the community.

No Firm Timeline: While the Mayor has made it clear that the encampment must end due to safety hazards, the city has not yet provided a specific shutdown timeline or outlined what actions law enforcement will take if protesters refuse to leave.

Impact and Disruptions

The ongoing occupation has caused several logistical issues throughout downtown Madison:

Emergency Service Delays: Fire Station 3 is located directly within the blockaded zone, forcing emergency vehicles to reroute all eastbound responses and raising significant safety concerns.

Public Transit & Commerce: Local bus routes remain disrupted, and neighboring businesses on the Williamson Street corridor report being entirely blocked from customers.

Event Cancellations: Major summer events, including local farmers' markets and the city's signature Concerts on the Square, have been canceled or cut short due to safety concerns and demonstrations. [1, 2]

Local officials and community groups are actively negotiating with protest organizers to bring a peaceful end to the encampment
