Most Japanese and European new car models already have driver monitoring software. It will be implemented next year in the US if Congress doesn't act to stop it.
Besides being intrusive, this software doesn't account for people with disabilities (like myself) who may have a head tilt or lazy eye, which doesn't impair their ability to drive but could trigger the system shutoff if eye gaze isn't straight ahead.
Also, your car is the best tool for escaping from a dangerous situation. If you have to go through certain procedures simply to start your ignition, this could put many people at risk.
