Visiting Mom project updates-
In my last Mom Project update I mentioned steam cleaning her carpets. Well, in order to keep the dogs from making the carpets worse, my brother decided to wall off the Living Room(the carpet I cleaned) with 2 pieces of plywood. The opening from Foyer to Living Room was held in place with a bench,(picture 1) and the opening from kitchen to Living Room...after the plywood was put in place...was held in place by opening a drawer.(picture 2).

This plywood stupidity has been used since the I was here last year so I decided to install some gates. Easiest would have been the ones you install using pressure joints, but I did not want mom to have to step over a bottom bar. The opening to the rooms now look like Pictures 3 and 4.

My oldest brother is not very handy, and a bit of a clutter hound, has thanked me 3 times already. He lives with my Mom and takes care of her day to day. The hardest part was for him finding the tools I needed to do the job. His garage "handyman" space is an absolute disheveled mess. Took him an hour to find a measuring tape, drill bits and a screwdriver.

Had to adjust the gates so you only had to lift up a little bit for them to open, otherwise my Mom would have a hard time. She's got the hang of them now after a little practice.

The name brand of these gates is Babelio, and they are metal and sturdy.

Sunday Dinner…Monday Leftovers

It’s a gorgeous Sunday morning. The sun is shining, there’s not a breath of wind, and it’s the perfect day to fire up the grill.

Today’s menu: grilled beef satay with peanut sauce, rice, and carrots. It better be worth it because chopping lemongrass and fresh ginger just qualified as today’s upper-body workout.

Of course, no Sunday cooking marathon is complete without a Rombauerita! 🍹 Mark got a head start yesterday by pouring Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc into ice cube trays to make semi-frozen wine cubes. I married a man who plans ahead… at least when cocktails are involved.

The best part of Sunday dinner? Monday leftovers. That means tomorrow night I won’t be stuck in the kitchen. I’ll be planted on the couch, reheating satay and enjoying Friday night’s Gutfeld! exactly the way leftovers were meant to be enjoyed.

What’s on your Sunday menu? And will there be enough leftovers for Monday to enjoy during Friday’s pre-empted Gutfeld!?
