During many 4th of July celebrations involving fireworks, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture is performed just prior to the big event. It’s kind of ironic that a famous Russian Classical piece is celebrated as part of our Independence Day, but it fits quite well, and Tchaikovsky predates the Russian Revolution by several decades. Tchaikovsky also performed at the premiere of Carnegie Hall.
This was actually my first classical music concert. It was in Tulsa OK on July 4, 1973 with The Tulsa Philharmonic conducted by Skitch Henderson.
