Micro Socialism / Conservative Socialism Can and Does Work. The right should support it.
Socialism seems to be the fad these days with Zoran Mamdani's version Called Democratic Socialism being all the rage in NYC. Democrat party representatives and candidates are eager to advocate for and replicate this Democratic Socialism in other political jurisdictions.
Regardless of the version or name it is given, the socialism still relies on workers controlling the means of production and single payer for services. This has never worked before and will similarly fail in this incarnation as it is applied on too large of a macro scale. Socialism is likely to fail because the transfer of wealth between the payer and recipient is between individuals unknown to each other. Mamdani has stated that while income inequality has fallen across the country, it has increased in NYC. He will likely succeed in closing the gap. Rather than lifting up the lower income worker recipients, the high income worker payers will likely voluntarily leave as more and more is taken from them. The wealth gap will most definitely shrink. Everyone remaining will likely become poorer as the funding source of their subsidy goes away.
It occurrs to the author that socialism can work , can only work, and does work when performed on a micro scale. Conservative socialism works because the single payer and the recipient are both known to each other. They are in fact the same person. The single payer is the young worker who volunarily fleeces himself of a significant portion of his current wealth from his ability the for the benefit of his older retired non working and non earning self according to his future need. It is this bond and only this bond that will motivate a single payer to produce 2x to 3x his current need and then freely give it away to his future self that he knows is or will be truly needy and truly will not have the means in his later years.
President Reagan coined the phrase or popularized the phrase "trust but verify".
It occurs to the author that this could be the reason that macro socialism in its many forms and incarnations has failed and continues to fail. Verification is missing. The payer by not knowing the recipient has no means to verify the recipients need and the recipient has no means to verify the single payers ability.
With micro socialisn, the single payer can trust in the future need of the recipient. This trust is the motivation for the young self to delay current gratification in the spring and summer of his life to prepare for his future need in his fall and winter years.
@greggutfeld , while promotion of conservative socislism is somewhat performative and not literal, it is an attempt to possibly reach those on the fence that could be swayed by the most recent socialist incarnation.
