Morning Gutter Gang. A fine couple of fine days around here--70's into 80's and probably even hotter today so finally getting back outside. And I'm healing decently from my recent health adventure. Even getting back some endurance for working in the yard. In the immortal words of George Costanza "I'm busting Jerry"
So an old song to share this a.m. from the Monkees while I plan today's activities. It's "Mary, Mary"
MY FRIENDS ARE BACK!! 🤗😍 So cool to watch paper wasps....& we're not on their menu 😂 Think they like the camera too 😂 Mornin ☕💫
In Geological History:
The catastrophic 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption remains the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history. Triggered by a
-magnitude earthquake, the mountain's north face collapsed into the largest recorded landslide in history. This uncorked the magma chamber, unleashing a supersonic lateral blast that instantly flattened over 200 square miles of forest.
Key Impacts of the Eruption:
Casualties: 57 people tragically lost their lives.
Destruction: The blast destroyed 200 homes, 47 bridges, and 185 miles of highway.
The Summit: The mountain's elevation was reduced from 9,677 feet to 8,363 feet, leaving a massive horseshoe-shaped crater.
Ash Cloud: A vertical plume of ash shot 15-16 miles into the atmosphere, causing complete darkness in cities like Spokane and circling the globe.
Today, the blast zone is protected as the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, which serves as a living laboratory for ecological recovery.
