Speaking of judges, here’s a story that I don’t think I have told before…
At one point I had a prosecutor in my criminal docket who had the same demeanor as Dan Fielding on “Night Court.” During one jail docket I called a defendant who had managed to pick up at least a dozen charges. I advised him of his rights, entered a plea of not guilty and asked the prosecutor (let’s call him Mr. Wilson) for a bond recommendation. Mr. Wilson replied, “Well Judge, since it appears that the defendant is intent on violating as many of the Kentucky Revised Statutes as possible, the Commonwealth recommends a bond of $25,000 full cash.” I said, “So ordered.” and as the defendant walked back to the holding cell he exclaimed, “Well suck my d*ck!” Mr. Wilson asked if I heard that, and I called the defendant back before the bench. I advised him, “Sir, I can’t help you with that, and Mr. Wilson can’t help you with that. But when you get back to the detention center ask around and you should be able to find someone who can help you out.”
