A bit-o-lunar trivia:
NASA chose Iceland for astronaut training because its volcanic landscape, with its lava fields, craters, and basalt and breccia rocks, closely resembles the moon's surface. Astronauts trained in Iceland to practice geological sampling, navigation, and fieldwork skills in conditions similar to what they would encounter on the Moon.
Why Iceland was chosen: Iceland's geology provided an ideal, otherworldly stand-in for the lunar surface.
What they trained for: Astronauts practiced geological observation, sample collection, and navigation in the rugged terrain.
Key features: The landscape includes features like basalt and breccia rocks, and numerous volcanic craters, which are similar to those found on the Moon.
Training for different missions: Astronauts trained in Iceland for both the Apollo program and the more recent Artemis program, highlighting its continued relevance for lunar missions.
We are so grateful to have found The Gutter and to be part of a place where we can meet wonderful people and feel a real sense of community. We truly have so much to be thankful for, and today we love to celebrate that together.
Please share your Thanksgiving moments with us—what you’re thankful for, what made you smile, or the simple joys that made today special.
As for me, I’m thankful that my family is healthy and happy, that the kids have their homes and their jobs, and that I can pause during the day to notice something in nature I don’t see every day…..flock of starlings murmuring around our refinery.
Those little moments mean everything.
Happy Thanksgiving from my heart to yours.
Congratulations to @APalm, @Pam_Antosiak, @RockNRollHS. Your questions were chosen for tonight’s.Ask Greg and the Panelists.
@APalm Who's a celebrity that is universally considered attractive, but they just don't do it for you?
@Pam_Antosiak At your current level of professional success, do you still have a five year plan? And if you do, where do you want to be in five years?
@RockNRollHS What is it that annoys you the most these days?
Well, the snow has started. I was hoping they were wrong. Supposed to continue until tomorrow morning, with 4-8 inches total. I don't have to be anywhere until Monday, so plan on putting up some Christmas decorations, doing some organizing around the house and relaxing and watching TV. Not too bad!
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
Small Business Saturday reminds us of the prime shopping opportunities right in our own communities. Not only do the small businesses where we work, live, and play offer numerous gift-giving possibilities, they are hands-on and ready to complete your shopping list with quality, thoughtful gifts.
Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Shop Small movement energizes small business owners to prepare for customers in every way possible. That includes the traditional brick-and-mortar customer and the online shopper. The single-day event continues to grow each year. That means business owners are ready for you to shop their stores!
Small businesses feed our communities. They keep our main streets thriving and employ nearly half of the American workforce. Supporting small businesses means you're supporting your local economy, local business, tax base, schools, and infrastructure. Your holiday shopping will put food on the tables of people you know.
You will be doing your community some good, and you ...
