Affordable housing should NEVER be a legitimate reason to invoke eminent domain.
But unfortunately, this is a result of the 2005 Kelo decision that expanded the public use definition to include transfer of one's private property to another private entity for economic development. This should never have been allowed.
Eminent domain should only be used for public works projects (like highways, ports, etc.) when all other options have been exhausted. Now it's used for land grabs and profits.
