Some of the community has been wondering where I’ve been.
For the past 3 months I’ve been helping my sister to care for our mother in home hospice.
My sister contacted me after our mother was hospitalized for a pulmonary embolus.
I immediately drove to Birmingham the day after.
Previous and subsequent assessments provided what we have suspected since her Christmas visit with me.
She had lung cancer (adenocarcinoma) and had weeks to live. Mom received that information the day after Mother’s Day.
My sister and I took care of our mother 24/7 at her home in Alabama.
She lived for 3 1/2 months, and died without pain…peacefully.
I spent her final hours reading and watching her take her final breath.
I am not one to shed tears, but as I write this, the tears are falling.
Eva Lena Durand (born at home on December 9, 1931 in Davant, La. and died July 22, 2025 in Birmingham)
She was loved and will be missed by all.
Thanks for listening.
“Wow, thats a lot of meat!”
Really? You are going to say that to me?!?
“Why thank you madam, I just love it when a woman says that to me!”
Wednesday night at the ‘Four Aces Bar and Saloon’.
They have a special happy hour just for Shyrock residents.
Two Jacks and Diet Coke, with a ‘squeeze of lime’.
3 1/3 lb double bacon cheeseburgers.
I ate one already, I was ‘HUUUNGRY’!
