I am just watching the FIVE after a day of doctor appointments and errands. It just breaks my heart for the people of Texas affected by this horrific flooding. God comfort the survivors, particularly the parents of the children lost from the Christian camp.
The Guadalupe River Basin is one of the three most dangerous regions in the US for flash floods.
At first I wasn't going to publish this post.
I didn't think anyone would be cruel and/or stupid enough to blame this devastation on a human or an agency or carbon emissions or racism.
But I was way wrong.
So here is an official 1999 guideline for Texans in the HIll Country region (west of San Antonio). It was funded by a grant from FEMA and prepared by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority.
Basically, their message is this:
Dangerous flash flooding has been a known threat in this river basin since the 1930s [when they began tracking it]. If you live or work along the Blanco, Comal, San Marcos or Guadalupe Rivers, you are at risk from flooding.
This terrible natural disaster developed very rapidly, much like a tornado or tsunami, or an avalanche or volcanic eruption.
We humans will never put an end to these events. But we can concentrate all our efforts on rescue, recovery...
