On March 24, 1958, 23-year-old Elvis Presley was inducted into the U.S. Army at the Memphis Draft Board, becoming a private (serial number 53310761). Labeled "Black Monday" by fans, the event saw him trade his fame for a regular soldier's life, later training at Fort Hood and serving in West Germany.

Induction Location: Memphis, Tennessee, before processing at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

Service Choice: Despite offers to join Special Services (entertainer division), Elvis chose to serve as a regular soldier to gain public respect.
