IT was Christmas Eve, 1975. In Peoria, Illinois, the town had already gone quiet—stores shuttered, streets empty, the cold settling in.
Dan Fogelberg’s parents had one last request: Irish coffees. They sent him out into the winter night to find whipping cream. Not far away, a young woman named Jill Anderson was sent on a similar mission—eggnog—and stepped out into that same cold December air.
